Autumn Water Yixing Teapot by Wangjie

An interplay of different curves—convex and concave, simple and compound—forms this teapot's shape, resembling an ancient amphora with the lid and body flattened to a double lip, as if sealed for the right moment. The connoisseur may appreciate subtle details: the inclination of the spout, the point on the end of the handle, the smooth pour through a built-in net filter. On the whole, it seems to be profoundly at peace, waiting unhurriedly for its owner to unseal it.

The clay

Made of the lustrous and dense zhuni (朱泥) from the mine of Zhaozhuang (赵庄), a source of the material since the Ming Dynasty. Its density and superior heat retention recommends it for use with aromatic teas or those brewed with the hottest water, such as rolled oolongs or black teas.
